Got home from Goodwood at 1am this morning. Absolutely drained. It was so hot that it ruined the experience. Just couldn't cope with the temperature.
Hotel was a disappointment - looking at you #Travelodge - no hot water, pointless shitty desk fan in the room. Not told about the hot water at check-in, only found out when I complained on the morning of the final day.
Goodwood Festival of Speed was good, but so many people. I mean there were TOO many people, which combined with the heat was oppressive. Masses of people just shambling around in the heat like the horde from "The Walking Dead". There was a line at every stand and eventually, once viewed, they took their time shambling off and getting out of the fucking way.
Data coverage was poor, the free wi-fi was rubbish - but everything was reliant on the Goodwood app. Tedious.
But the biggest shock was the prices. I knew we'd be ripped off ... but ยฃ3.35 for a can of Fanta!!!! Fuck me. T-shirt and the cap in the picture - ยฃ88!!!! Unbelievable. Feel like I've been mugged.
There was some good stuff - the cars on the Hill Climb were good. The motorbike bits were good and the BMX display (as told to me by the wife) was very good.
Would I go again? I think not. Will the wife go again - probably.
On a positive note - "Clive the Kia" did a fantastic job in the heat. Got us there and back in comfort. Air conditioning was awesome, tunes were good and seating was superb. Had the car several years and this was the first time I'd sit in the back whilst someone else drove โ I didn't know I had heated rear seats! Things you discover. I'm normally uncomfortable sitting in the back โ but the Sportage is surprisingly roomy and supportive.
Update
We went to Goodwood on Thursday and Friday and found the number of people oppressive. I am watching it on streaming now and there are visibly far more people there today than yesterday - I am so glad to be at home and not there in the heat with the sweaty horde.
