We have a problem in this country with political apathy. Whilst the left have been conducting their march through the institutions, the majority of everyday people have just wanted to be left alone to get on with their lives in peace. And there is the problem.
The political class like to tell us how they have a mandate and popular support for their actions. It's gaslighting to a degree that should make any sane person cringe.
At the last general election only 59.7% of people turned out to vote. To put some context to that โ there are 48,224,212 registered voters, but only 28,809,340 eligible votes were cast. 19,414,872 didn't have a say in the result โฆ. or less people gave a toss than voted for or against Brexit.
We now have a majority Labour Government, they secured 33.7% of the vote share. Not 33.7% of the total, just 33.7% of those that could be bothered = 9,708,716 votes. We're now being led by an abhorrent bunch of chancers based on the votes of roughly 1 in 5 people.
Our system is broken, unfair and consistently delivers poor outcomes. How can a system where the 3rd biggest party by vote share only got 5 seats, yet the 4th biggest party by vote share got 73 seats. I don't think the system can be reformed or salvaged. We need something better โฆ. but I'm not sure people would like to hear what I'd replace it with.
